Sports Premium

What is Sports Premium?

The government provides additional funding to schools to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools.  This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent to further improve and develop the provision of PE and sport in school.

How can the Sports Premium funding be used?

Schools must spend the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. This must be reported on at the end of each academic year.  Schools are free to choose the best way of using the money however, the following key areas must be the key area of focus:

  1. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  2. Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
  3. The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and physical activities offered to all pupils
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport

For example, the funding can be used to:

  • Hire specialist PE teachers
  • Hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers
  • Provide existing staff with teaching resources to help them teach PE and sport
  • Support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs
  • Run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • Run sports activities with other schools

PE and Sport at Holy Family

Physical Education is extremely important to us here at Holy Family. We teach children the importance of exercise and the impact it has on our daily lives. We provide a minimum of 2 hours per week PE in our weekly timetable and along side this we provide a range of extra curriculum activities for children.

Every day we have a free lunchtime sport club ran by professional sports coaches. We also provide after school sports activities.

Please see below our sports funding statement.
